The Rowing World
The races that inspire us — and that our members could one day compete in.
On The Water
Coastal rowing can just be a nice row down to the beach, moor by the pub and have a drink. That sounds perfectly good to me! But Coastal rowing also has some of the most spectacular events in the sporting calendar — open water, iconic locations, and crews of all abilities competing side by side. Here are some of the events that inspire us most, and that Wallasey CRC members could one day be lining up for.

The sailing boats do well in the open water but struggle in the channels! Then there's barbie and beers to follow.

The ultimate adventure row — 21 miles, the full length of Loch Ness, from Fort Augustus to Dores, in whatever human-powered boat you can muster. In 2025, over 550 competitors from around the world lined up in everything from coastal sculling boats and St Ayles skiffs to dragon boats and self-built craft. The scenery is breathtaking, the camaraderie is extraordinary, and Nessie has yet to claim a finisher. The perfect long-term goal for any WCRC crew. And I can't not mention this fact... Loch Ness is so large and deep that it contains more water than all the lakes in England combined!
