Wallasey CRC
Open water. Real conditions. Unforgettable camaraderie.
The Sport
Coastal rowing is one of the fastest-growing water sports in the UK — and once you've tried it, it's easy to see why. Unlike flat-water rowing, you're out on open water dealing with real tides, swell, and conditions. It's challenging, exhilarating, and deeply social.
The boats are purpose-built for the sea — more stable and seaworthy than river craft — and races typically follow coastal courses around headlands and into harbours. Most people who try it are completely hooked within their first session.
Once we build as a club, there are a tremendous amount of events, races and adventures we can take part in. The fantastic Welsh Sea Rowing Association run a fantastic league system with races all around the Welsh coast, from shorter races to real challenges.
If you want real adventure, there's now an annual row across Loch Ness, but there's not been any Nessie sightings lately! The biggest race of the year is the Great River Race in London. 21 miles up the Thames, from Millwall to Richmond, with a huge party at the end!
If it's total madness you are after... every 2 years, there is the Celtic Challenge, rowing a Celtic Longboat from the Irish Coast to Aberystwith! 95 miles taking about 20 hours!
But the best days can be just getting in a boat for a few hours and having a good row around with your mates! Come and join us!
Why You'll Love It
Tides, wind, and waves included. Coastal rowing takes you out into real conditions — challenging, exhilarating, and unlike anything you've tried before.
One boat, one goal, shared effort. The camaraderie built on the water is like nothing else. It's deeply social and you'll make friends for life.
A full-body workout disguised as an adventure. Burns calories, builds strength, and clears the mind — all while enjoying the stunning Mersey estuary.
From local regattas to national coastal races, there's a competitive pathway if you want it — or just enjoy the training and the water if you don't.
Launching from Wallasey Beach puts you right on the estuary. Stunning views of the Liverpool waterfront, Hilbre Island, and beyond.
We're a club for everyone. You don't need a rowing background, a certain level of fitness, or any special kit. Just turn up and give it a go.
The Boats
Fixed seat, coastal rowing boats are wide-beamed, stable, and designed to handle real sea conditions. Unlike the narrow racing shells you might picture from the Olympics, these are boats you can learn in safely.
They're typically rowed by four people plus a cox, which means every session is a team effort from the moment you push off the beach.
